Wimbledon 2025 Women's Semifinals: Anisimova Defeats Sabalenka to Reach Final; Świątek Aims to Join Her
Amanda Anisimova has secured her place in the 2025 Wimbledon Women’s Singles final with a thrilling three-set victory over top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka on Thursday at the All England Club. The American outlasted Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a gripping semifinal clash on Centre Court.
Despite showing signs of visible frustration at times, Anisimova maintained her composure during key moments, particularly in the decisive third set where she built a 4-1 lead. Though Sabalenka fought back and reduced the gap, the early advantage proved crucial as Anisimova held on to take the match and reach her first-ever Wimbledon final.
Her strong service game—although producing just two aces—kept Sabalenka under pressure throughout the match. This marks a major milestone in Anisimova’s career as she becomes the first of the four semifinalists to reach the championship round at this year’s tournament.
The second semifinal will feature World No. 8 Iga Świątek of Poland taking on Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic. Świątek has dominated the competition so far, dropping only one set en route to the semis. With 21 career WTA titles—including four French Opens and one US Open—she is aiming to add a Wimbledon title to her résumé.
Bencic, who entered the tournament unseeded, has made an impressive run filled with tight matches and upsets, including a victory over No. 7 seed Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals. Ranked 34th in the world, Bencic is hoping to continue her Cinderella story by reaching her first Wimbledon final.
