Former U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs reached out to him seeking a presidential pardon in relation to his current federal criminal case.

During an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Monday, Trump was asked about the possibility of granting clemency to Ghislaine Maxwell, the former associate of Jeffrey Epstein. In response, Trump said that “many people have asked me for pardons,” specifically naming Diddy among them.

Combs was sentenced last Friday to more than four years in federal prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation for the purpose of prostitution.

Earlier in August, Combs’ attorney Nicole Westmoreland told CNN that the legal team had already made contact with the Trump administration regarding a potential pardon. “It’s my understanding that we’ve reached out and discussed the matter,” Westmoreland said.

However, Trump previously told Newsmax that while he “got along well” with Diddy in the past, the rapper’s hostility during Trump’s presidential campaign made granting a pardon “a little harder to do.”

When CNN sought confirmation in August, a White House spokesperson declined to discuss whether any clemency request had been filed.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Combs’ legal team submitted a formal request to Judge Arun Subramanian, asking that the Bureau of Prisons assign Combs to a low-security facility in Fort Dix, New Jersey — a placement that would allow him to “address substance abuse issues” and remain closer to his family for “rehabilitation and visitation purposes.”
