Arsenal Women kicked off their pre-season campaign at Meadow Park but suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur Women in an entertaining London derby friendly on Saturday afternoon.
Match Summary
The game started brightly for the Gunners, as Victoria Pelova opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a fine finish after a long pass from Emily Fox. However, Spurs equalised soon after through Bethany England, who capitalised on a defensive mistake to level the game at 1-1.
Arsenal regained the lead before halftime when Alessia Russo’s cross was mistakenly turned into the net by Charli Grant, giving the home side a 2-1 advantage at the break.
Second Half Action
In the second half, Tottenham quickly responded. A foul on Russo resulted in a penalty for Spurs, and Bethany England converted confidently to make it 2-2. Moments later, Matilda Vinberg broke through Arsenal’s defense to slot home and put Spurs ahead for the first time.
