Texas Senator Angela Paxton Files for Divorce from Attorney General Ken Paxton Amid Adultery Allegations

July 11, 2025 — USA TODAY Report | By Kayla Jimenez, Aysha Bagchi, Davis Winkie (Rewritten)

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and his wife, state Senator Angela Paxton, are ending their marriage following allegations of infidelity. Angela Paxton, who represents the Dallas-area in the Texas Senate, officially filed for divorce, citing adultery in court documents reviewed by The Texas Tribune.

According to the petition, the couple has been living separately since June 2024. The news has sparked intense political and public interest due to Ken Paxton's high-profile role in Texas politics and his close alignment with former President Donald Trump.

In a public statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on July 10, Angela Paxton said,

“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe remaining in this marriage honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken.”

Ken Paxton responded on X without addressing the adultery claim.Read More

“Political attacks and public scrutiny have taken a toll on our family,” he wrote. “I am proud of the family we’ve built and remain committed to supporting our children and grandchildren. Please respect our privacy and keep us in your prayers.”

Who is Ken Paxton?

Ken Paxton has served as Texas Attorney General since 2015, gaining national recognition for supporting tough immigration policies and legal efforts aligned with the Trump administration. Over the years, however, he has also faced numerous legal challenges and ethics controversies:

  • 2016: Charged with securities fraud by the SEC, though charges were eventually dismissed in 2024 through a pretrial agreement.

  • 2023: Impeached by the Texas House on bribery allegations, but acquitted by the Texas Senate. The trial included claims of an extramarital affair, though Angela Paxton recused herself from voting.

  • 2021–2024: Investigated for criminal corruption by the DOJ, but the case was dropped under President Joe Biden's administration.

  • 2020: Sued by the State Bar of Texas over attempts to overturn the presidential election, but he ultimately prevailed.

What’s Next for Ken Paxton?

In April 2025, Paxton announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, challenging incumbent Republican Senator John Cornyn in the upcoming 2026 primary. Early polls show Paxton leading Cornyn among GOP voters.

It remains uncertain how the divorce and surrounding controversy will affect his Senate campaign. However, Paxton continues to command strong support from Texas conservatives and maintains a significant presence in state politics.
