Djokovic Faces Fitness Questions After Quarter-Final Fall

Veteran Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, had a tense moment in his quarter-final against Flavio Cobolli. The 38-year-old Serbian slipped awkwardly but managed to finish the match and advance to the semi-final.

Despite his win, Djokovic canceled Thursday’s practice, sparking speculation about his physical condition ahead of the semi-final.

Djokovic previously faced a leg injury at the Australian Open earlier this year, which forced him to retire during the semi-final. At 38, he acknowledges that recovery takes longer than for younger players, such as 23-year-old Sinner or 22-year-old Carlos Alcaraz.

“I spend a lot of time off the court preparing my body to perform,” Djokovic admitted. “It’s tiring, but necessary.”

Jannik Sinner Ready Despite Elbow Strain

World number one Jannik Sinner also faced an injury scare. He suffered a right elbow strain after slipping in his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov. Though Dimitrov later retired due to injury, Sinner appeared uncomfortable and wore heavy strapping in his following match against Ben Shelton.

Sinner skipped Tuesday’s full practice, opting for light indoor training while awaiting scan results. Still, the Italian star assured fans he will be “100% fit” for the semi-final, appearing confident during Thursday’s session.

Other Semi-Finalists: Fritz and Alcaraz

In the other men’s semi-final, Carlos Alcaraz will face Taylor Fritz. Fritz, seeded fifth, required a medical timeout for foot treatment during his win over Karen Khachanov. He later confirmed it was a minor tape irritation.

“It’s a common thing – I just needed my tape redone,” Fritz said. This marks his first Wimbledon semi-final appearance.

Meanwhile, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is fully fit, with no injury concerns. The 22-year-old Spaniard is aiming for his third consecutive Wimbledon title and appears in peak physical condition.

Key Takeaways for Wimbledon 2025 Semi-Finals

  • Novak Djokovic: Recovering from a quarter-final fall; canceled Thursday practice.

  • Jannik Sinner: Elbow issue present but trained lightly before semi-final.

  • Taylor Fritz: Foot issue minor; tape irritation resolved.

  • Carlos Alcaraz: Fully fit and a strong favorite for the title.

Match Preview & Prediction

With Djokovic vs Sinner, fans can expect a tactical, high-energy match. Djokovic’s experience vs Sinner’s youthful aggression will be the key storyline. Injury management may play a decisive role, especially in long rallies and extended sets. Meanwhile, the Alcaraz vs Fritz semi-final promises an equally exciting clash, with Alcaraz likely holding the advantage due to fitness and consistency.

Conclusion

As Wimbledon 2025 approaches its climax, injury updates and fitness reports will remain crucial. Djokovic, Sinner, Fritz, and Alcaraz all have the potential to make it to the final, but physical readiness could determine who lifts the coveted Wimbledon trophy on Sunday.
