The San Diego Padres have made a major move ahead of the MLB trade deadline, acquiring All-Star reliever Mason Miller and left-handed starter JP Sears from the Oakland Athletics, according to sources reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

In return, Oakland will receive Leodalis De Vries, the No. 3 overall prospect in baseball, marking one of the most significant MLB trades of the 2025 season.

Miller, 26, has been a standout performer for the Athletics this season, posting:

Miller was an All-Star in 2024 and now strengthens a Padres bullpen that already features Robert Suarez (MLB leader with 30 saves) and top setup man Jason Adam.

With Miller’s arrival, San Diego’s relief pitching becomes one of the strongest bullpens in MLB, though reports suggest Suarez himself could be moved before the July 31 trade deadline.
