Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler Hospitalized After Being Set on Fire; Suspect Arrested

Danville, Virginia – A shocking incident unfolded Wednesday morning when Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler was set on fire during a violent attack in downtown Danville. Police confirmed that the suspect, Shotsie Hayes, 29, has been arrested and is currently in custody.
🔥 Attack on Main Street
According to the Danville Police Department, officers responded around 11:30 a.m. to the 700 block of Main Street after reports of a man being intentionally set ablaze. Emergency responders from the Danville Fire Department and Danville Life Saving Crew rushed to the scene to provide immediate medical assistance.
Witnesses stated that the suspect entered Vogler’s workplace, confronted him, and poured a flammable liquid on him. Both the suspect and Vogler exited the building before Hayes allegedly ignited the liquid, causing severe burns to the councilman.
🚨 Suspect Captured Shortly After Attack
After the attack, Hayes fled the scene in a vehicle. Quick-thinking witnesses provided police with a detailed suspect and vehicle description. Officers intercepted the vehicle several blocks away and arrested Hayes without further incident.
🏥 Vogler Airlifted to Regional Hospital
Councilman Vogler was airlifted to a regional medical facility for treatment. The extent of his injuries remains unknown as doctors continue to assess his condition.
Authorities emphasized that this incident appears to stem from a personal dispute between Vogler and Hayes, and it is not connected to Vogler’s official duties as a city council member.
