Tesla has sparked major buzz online after teasing an event set for October 7, with many analysts predicting that Elon Musk’s company is finally preparing to reveal its long-awaited affordable electric vehicle.

In a nine-second teaser video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Tesla showed a mysterious car with its headlights glowing in the dark, ending the clip with the numbers “10/7” — a clear hint at the event date.

Investors react as Tesla stock rises

The post quickly ignited excitement among fans and investors, pushing Tesla’s stock price up 3% in early Monday trading. Many believe the automaker is ready to unveil a budget-friendly version of the Model Y, which has faced multiple rollout delays in the United States.

Earlier this year, Tesla confirmed that “first builds” of the cheaper Model Y were completed, but sales wouldn’t start until the fourth quarter of 2025. Production will also ramp up more slowly than originally planned.

According to reports, this new stripped-down Model Y will cost around 20% less to manufacture than the refreshed version and could reach 250,000 annual units in the U.S. by 2026.

Analysts see major potential

“Tesla is teasing something big,” said Matt Britzman, senior equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown and a Tesla shareholder. “If this is truly a lower-cost Model Y, the price tag will show just how much cost-saving Tesla has achieved — and how much new demand it can create.”

Timing after strong delivery numbers

The teaser comes right after Tesla posted record-breaking third-quarter deliveries, fueled by a rush of EV buyers seeking to take advantage of the $7,500 U.S. tax credit before it expired on September 30.

Still, some analysts warn that sales might slow in the coming months now that the incentive is gone. Even so, Wall Street forecasts Tesla’s deliveries to reach 1.85 million vehicles next year, with the affordable model expected to account for over 150,000 units in 2026, according to Visible Alpha data.

Tesla needs a fresh hit

Tesla hasn’t launched a completely new mass-market vehicle in years. The company has relied on updates to its Model 3 and Model Y to keep momentum, while its last major release — the Cybertruck — has struggled to maintain sales despite heavy discounts.

A U.S. recall filing earlier this year revealed that 46,096 Cybertrucks had been built between November 2023 and early 2025.

All eyes on Tuesday

With excitement building across the EV community, fans are counting down the hours to see what Musk unveils on October 7. Whether it’s a new affordable Tesla or a surprise twist, one thing is certain — the world will be watching.
