Diddy Pleads for Leniency Ahead of Sentencing, Says Jail Time Has Changed Him
October 3, 2025 — Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has written a personal letter to the judge presiding over his criminal case, asking for mercy just one day before his sentencing. The 55-year-old rapper and entrepreneur, convicted on prostitution-related charges earlier this year, now faces up to 20 years in prison.

Diddy’s Letter to the Judge
In a four-page letter addressed to Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs expressed deep remorse for his past actions, blaming years of drug addiction and excess for his downfall.
“I lost my way,” Combs wrote. “My downfall was rooted in selfishness. I have been humbled and broken to my core.”
He admitted to assaulting ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, saying:
“I literally lost my mind. I’m sorry for that and always will be.”
He also apologized to another woman who testified under the name “Jane,” acknowledging the pain he caused.

What Prosecutors and Accusers Say
While Combs’ legal team is requesting his release later this month, prosecutors are seeking a minimum of 11 years in prison. They argue that Combs remains “unrepentant” and has a long history of abusive behavior.
In a letter to the court, Ventura said she still fears for her safety:
“If he walks free, his first actions will be swift retribution. He will always be the same cruel, manipulative man.”
Other accusers also described how Combs allegedly used his influence to control and harm them.
Life Behind Bars and Claims of Change
During his 13 months in a Brooklyn jail, Combs said he became sober for the first time in 25 years. He also claims to have started teaching classes to fellow inmates about business and personal growth.
“The old me died in jail and a new version of me was reborn,” he wrote.
Combs urged the judge to consider his seven children and his 84-year-old mother, who recently underwent brain surgery. He asked to be made an example of “what a person can do if given a second chance.
Charges and Trial Outcome
In July 2025, a jury found Combs guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of the most serious charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking, which could have resulted in a life sentence.
Prosecutors, however, maintain that his past actions were not the result of “toxic relationships” but rather of one-sided abuse in which Combs held all the power.
What Comes Next
Combs will appear in court on Friday at 10:00 a.m. ET (15:00 GMT), where he is expected to speak directly to the judge. His defense team, including four attorneys, also plans to present arguments along with a 15-minute video whose contents remain undisclosed.
The final sentence will determine whether Combs receives the long prison term prosecutors are seeking, or the more lenient outcome his lawyers are hoping for.
