Trump Orders Nuclear Submarine Deployment Following Medvedev’s Threats Amid US-Russia Tensions
By Zamal Uddin
US President Donald Trump has announced that he has ordered two nuclear submarines to be strategically deployed in response to threatening remarks made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. The move comes amid heightened US-Russia tensions over the ongoing war in Ukraine and escalating verbal clashes between the two leaders.
⚠️ Trump's Statement on Nuclear Submarines
Posting on Truth Social, Trump described Medvedev’s recent statements as “highly provocative and dangerous”, prompting precautionary military measures.
“Based on the highly provocative statements of Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, I have ordered two nuclear submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions,” Trump wrote.
“Words matter and can lead to unintended consequences—I hope this will not be one of those instances.”
The US president did not specify whether the deployed submarines were nuclear-powered or nuclear-armed, nor did he reveal their exact deployment locations.
🇷🇺 Medvedev’s Warnings to the US
Medvedev, who currently serves as Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, has been issuing direct threats toward Washington following Trump’s ultimatums to Moscow.
-
Earlier in July, Medvedev dismissed Trump’s sanctions threats as “theatrical,” saying “Russia didn’t care.”
-
On Monday, he accused Trump of playing the “ultimatum game with Russia,” warning that each new demand edges closer to war.
-
In a Telegram post on Thursday, Medvedev hinted at a “dead hand” nuclear retaliation system, a reference understood by analysts as Russia’s automatic counterstrike mechanism in case of a nuclear attack.
🕒 Deadlines and Growing Tensions
Trump has repeatedly set deadlines for Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine:
-
A 50-day deadline earlier in July
-
A 10–12 day deadline set on Monday
-
A new deadline of August 8
Trump warned that if Putin failed to comply, Russia would face severe economic sanctions, particularly targeting its oil and export sectors.
The war of words has intensified with Trump calling Medvedev a “failed former president of Russia”, warning him to “watch his words” and avoid entering “very dangerous territory.”
🔎 US and Kremlin Reactions
While the White House declined to comment on Trump’s latest remarks, the Kremlin has yet to issue an official response. Military experts note that both the US and Russia possess the largest nuclear arsenals in the world, making this latest exchange particularly concerning.
🌍 Global Implications
The deployment of nuclear submarines underscores rising US-Russia geopolitical tensions and highlights fears of nuclear escalation amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Analysts warn that any miscalculation in rhetoric or military movement could trigger a wider confrontation between the two nuclear powers.
