Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Southern New Hampshire – Strong Winds, Hail Possible

Manchester, NH – August 13, 2025
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of southern New Hampshire, including east-central Hillsborough County and southwestern Rockingham County, in effect until 5:45 p.m. EDT.

Storm Hazards and Potential Impacts

The NWS warns of:

  • Wind gusts up to 60 mph

  • Quarter-size hail capable of damaging vehicles

  • Potential damage to roofs, siding, and trees from high winds

Towns at risk include:

  • Litchfield

  • Auburn

  • Londonderry

  • Amherst

  • Derry

  • Manchester

  • Merrimack

  • Bedford

  • Chester

  • Mount Vernon

  • Windham

  • Salem

Residents in these areas should seek shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.


Heat Wave Continues

This severe weather comes during New Hampshire’s fourth heat wave of 2025, with temperatures reaching into the 90s across most locations.

  • Heat Advisory: In effect until 8 p.m. for parts of Strafford, Rockingham, and Hillsborough counties.

  • Concord recorded its fourth straight day above 90°F, with 23 days at or above 90°F so far this year — already exceeding last year’s total.


Evening Storm Outlook

According to meteorologists:

  • Scattered thunderstorms will continue through the early to mid-evening before clearing overnight.

  • Marginal risk for severe weather across much of the state.

  • Not all locations will receive rain, and fire danger remains high due to recent dry conditions.


Looking Ahead

  • Thursday: Partly cloudy, warm, and humid with a few afternoon thunderstorms.

  • Friday: Drier and more comfortable.

  • Weekend: Sunny Saturday with highs in the 80s. Sunday could near 90°F before a cold front brings a chance of storms late in the day.
