Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was arrested on Saturday, July 12, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in connection with a domestic violence incident, according to official inmate records from Broward County.
The 21-year-old Judkins, a second-round draft pick out of Ohio State, was charged with misdemeanor battery (domestic) under Florida Statute 784.03-1a1. The arrest report states the charge involves battery via “touch or strike.”
Details of the Incident
According to a statement from Sergeant David Soika of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, officers responded to a delayed report of battery at approximately 9:00 a.m. in the 1500 block of West Cypress Creek Road.
“Upon arrival, officers interviewed the victim and initiated a preliminary investigation. It was determined that a battery had occurred. The suspect, identified as Quinshon Judkins, was later located and taken into custody without incident,” the statement read. Judkins was then transported to Broward County Main Jail.
NFL and Browns Respond to the Situation
An NFL spokesperson told ESPN that the league is “aware of the matter but will decline further comment” as the situation develops.
A spokesperson for the Cleveland Browns also confirmed that the team is aware of the incident and is “currently gathering more information.”
Impact on Browns' Running Back Depth Chart
Judkins entered the NFL as the 36th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He was expected to play a major role in the Browns’ backfield following the departure of veteran star Nick Chubb. With Chubb gone and Jerome Ford stepping up as the lead back, Judkins was projected to share a significant workload this season.
The Browns also selected Dylan Sampson out of Tennessee in the fourth round to strengthen their running back unit.
College Football Background
Judkins began his college career at Ole Miss, where he amassed 2,725 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns across two seasons. After transferring to Ohio State, he contributed significantly to their national championship run, rushing for 1,060 yards and 14 touchdowns in his final collegiate season.
Uncertainty Surrounds Rookie’s Future
As of now, further details about the incident remain undisclosed. However, the arrest casts uncertainty on Judkins’ availability for the Browns heading into training camp and the regular season.
This situation will undoubtedly prompt scrutiny of both Judkins and the Browns’ offseason plans for revamping their offense in the post-Chubb era.
